Our ‘waiting list’ practice

Whilst the sheer numbers applying mean we are simply no longer able to manage a traditional waiting list for potential puppy homes, anyone interested in owning a Waldershelf dog is still welcome to apply via our contact form but this will probably not be looked at until the next time we have puppies, (and maybe not even then). Sorry but the numbers we receive are typically far too high to sort through in any meaningful way, especially when compared to the relatively low number of puppies we produce.

We like to get to know families and want to ensure we are the right breeders for them and they are the right home for a Bernese. Buying a puppy from a reputable breeder should always be a two way relationship, we are hopefully going to be friends for a long time, therefore it is essential both parties are happy with each other.

Hopefully we can meet serious enquirers at events or on visits, as it allows for relationships to develop with our potential puppy families, so when the our puppies do arrive we have already become good friends and we are dealing with familiar faces.

Timescales

Even after contact it may well be a while before a puppy is available for you or you may be lucky and not have long to wait. Due to the unpredictability of litters, sizes and sexes we cannot give any certainty how long you will have to wait, but encourage perspective owners to stay in regular contact and we always have an open house for families to get a Bernese fix while they wait.

To be fair to families we feel it is important to be realistic with timescales as we don’t feel comfortable holding large, long waiting lists because no one knows what the future holds.

Puppy Homes

We only let our puppies go to homes that are better than ours, and we think our dogs have it pretty good! However, we do not have any predetermined requirements for the perfect home, we prefer to take the time and get to know people and their lifestyles. We currently have dogs placed in a wide variety of homes, including; young families with children, retired couples, both first time dog owners and those with lots of Bernese experience, many different sizes of properties and gardens and also lots of different lifestyles.

How to join start the process

  • Please read the information on our website

We have spent a lot of time putting the content of this website together to be helpful and informative, hopefully this will answer some of your questions and also maybe raise things you hadn’t considered before (the Bernese section is particularly detailed).

  • Get in touch using the contact us form

Please share as much detail as you feel comfortable with and although we probably will be unable to get back to you, when/if we do expand our contact in the future we can go back to your form for reference and information.
